Well, everyone who knows us wonders why we need to spring clean because #1, we have only been in this house for about 9 months, and #2, since the wife is a bit obsessive about the cleaning anyways, dirt and clutter do not survive for long around here. I'm wondering how I've managed to not get tossed out as part of the clutter. I'm sure if I don't get this paperwork on my desk under control soon, that may change. ;-)
Anyways, the wife works very hard to keep this place very clean, but it turns out that we both walked into this marriage with old crappy vacuum cleaners. Mine died in about the first 2 weeks of moving in, and the wife's has barely been holding on. So, when her vacuum finally died itself last week, we decided to go out and get a good vacuum cleaner that would last us...so we went and got [queue the choir] the Dyson! Hallelujah!
We agonized over spending that much on a vacuum, so I feel compelled to share the justification. #1, the wife will quit her job once the baby is born, so I'm trying make all of our major purchases the top-of-the-line, will last 10 years kind of purchases. And, #2, that 20% off coupon to the Bed Bath that came in the mail last week didn't have "Dyson" in the exceptions, but the new one in the Sunday paper did...so we ran out and got it while we could get in on the "technicality". 20% off was big money on that thing.
So, last night, while the wife watched TV, I vacuumed our upstairs. You can tell that this is a new "toy", because the odds of finding me cleaning anything around here are slim...I'm not a cleaner. But I thoroughly enjoyed reclaiming my pretty shag carpet upstairs that the old vacuum simply did not have the strength to revive. What I did not enjoy, was emptying the canister. I read that when reading the reviews...the first time you vacuum with the Dyson it will completely gross you out. It did. The amount of dust and cat hair in our carpet was...just gross. I emptied the canister, then vacuumed the carpet 2 more times. There was still stuff coming up. It was disturbing.
Now that the carpet is pretty and soft again, and I got 9 months of nasty out of the carpet, I'm realizing what everyone was talking about with this vacuum. As much as I hated spending that money, and seeing all that dust, we both felt so much better knowing that the carpets the baby crawls on will never be that dirty. And maybe my allergies will benefit a bit too...that would be nice.

Spring Cleaning...

Ha! Cleaning goes straight into the pot when the kids come along. Maybe the wife is a bit more on the ball when it comes to that as compared to me (not hard, really), but if it comes down to cleaning or finding your piece of mind. I'll let you choose.
Yes...the scary thing is that for the wife, cleaning is her happy place. Good thing I'm not staying at home with the youngin'...nothing would get done. :)
